Minneapolis Institute of Art: Part 1

You know how some days you wake up and you just feel like the day is not going to go your way, that was TODAY… bullshit and nonsense, I do NOT need right now. I have a life to build here, little busy.

I’m still adjusting to the slight time difference between Seattle and Minneapolis (2 hours) and I woke up late… I hate waking up late… I’m an obligate morning person and anything past 9am feels like I’m being cheated out of my morning. Ugh… I woke up at 10:30! Not cool Jenna, not cool! Breakfast felt like lunch, lunch was non-existent! All my food plans, right out the frosty window…

Type- A? Me? Heavens no… why do you ask?

After getting my self back together (deciding to eat both meals), I decided that rather than be angry with myself… I would wander over to the closest museum to lighten the mood. GREAT IDEA.

I live within 10 minutes of the Minneapolis Institute of Art. I’ll be honest, I wasn’t really expecting much… I mean, a free museum can’t be THAT big, or have works from some of my favorite artists? Right? HA! Idiot.

I was blown away. It is 3 floors of non-stop artistic hits, I was/am in love.

Degas, Picasso, MondrianLichtenstein, Warhol…and Monet. I love Claude Monet and they had 2!

I started with my favorite, Modern Art.

Located on the expansive 3rd floor, I solemnly wandered.

I was overwhelmed by the sheer volume of works on display.

I even gasped at the sight of this bust; I’ve never seen Raffaelo Monti in person. Just in pictures. I think his work is astoundingly delicate and ethereal…

With only 30 minutes left until closing time… I quickly snapped a few other shots of things I found visually interesting.

I’ll have to come back for a better look at the whole collection. I was just so unprepared! Next time I will get up early and let it the art devour my whole day.

I did squander a few minutes to get in a badass selfie… worth it.

Goodness it is HAUTE outside

It has been oppressively hot in Seattle the past few days…anything above 85 degrees Farenheit is generally considered whole-heartedly unbareable in Seattle. Yes we are warm weather wussies, myself desiccatedly (is that a word? Am I just making up words now?) included. ANYWAY…

So, what do we do when it is too damn hot for clothing but society forces us out in public to buy a watermelon?…PUT ON A SUNDRESS. As close to wearing nothing at all as possible, these impossibly light weight dresses are the best bet to beat the heat.

According to Wikipedia, Lilly Pulitzer popularized the sundress with her bright, printed shift dresses in the 1970’s.

But it’s gone in every direction under the sun since then. Here are the C.W.S. (Classic $$$, Wildcard ???, Steal !!!)

Lilly Pulitzer Capricia Dress

Updated shift silhouette with a large eyelet embroidery. Bright, prep colors that I could actually see myself wearing without feeling like I need a tennis racket and a WASP husband.

Closest thing to nothing at all this Free People frock with the lace-up side details is a Wild Card in my book. Anything that requires enough bravery to laugh off the occassional side boob slip is a little w i l d for this introvert. *Must wear bandeau bra underneath…cute, lacey, flirty

Forever 21 Floral Print Racerback Dress

$16 is a friendly price to pay for a shift with this lively floral and if you’re frightened of wearing black, a recent study has shown that wearing black is not any warmer light colors since absorbs the light from the sun but also any heat coming off you body. Where white clothing reflects everything, including your own heat back at you. Yay science and clothing.

Classic – Lilly Pulitzer – Capricia Dress – $298

Wild Card – FP ONE Imperial Palm Pintuck Dress- $118

Steal – Forever 21 Floral Print Racerback Dress – $15.80

I’d be wearing these with every one of these dresses;
