Chromeo -oh- my

I am lucky enough to live within a few blocks of Seattle’s City Center. Typically heavy with tourists, I try to avoid the space on a bright and sunny weekend.. but I braved the bustle for a chance to see  Chromeo last night… and it was a blast.chrome5chrome4chrome2chromeo7

Every bit the rockstar, Dave 1 was charismatic and fun. While P-Thugg exuded a deep, mysterious DJ vibe. chrome3chrome6chrome1chromeo8

The whole show was nonstop fun and bouncing around to songs that I’ve loved since college (read: a long time). I would highly suggest checking them out in the future if you want to dance your ass off.

Balloons! Henry Art Gallery – University of Washington

Some opportunities in life have a very short window. You hear about an activity, decide to do it, and you either have to burst into action or languish in the wake of a snails pace to achieve the goal. I had a unique chance last weekend and had to strike like a viper!

What is worth so much hassle? 3700 large silver balloons. I kid you not. In a room the size of a basketball court. That you can play in.

Technically, it’s an installation by artist Martin Creed: Work No. 360: Half the Air in a Given Space. Per the Henry Gallery, the participants are meant to gather insight about air and how is takes up space:

Part of a celebrated suite of pieces made with balloons, the monochromatic and formless sea of spheres offers visitors an opportunity to navigate the work from within—while also challenging them to consider that the location of art can be found somewhere between physical experience and sculptural construct.

Really, it’s a legit excuse to amble around a room full of large balloon and laugh your ass of in the process. I am a proponent of the idea that adults should play. It’s healthful for us to release stress and explore being in the moment… but I am basically a giant 3rd grader, so… grain of salt and whatnot. DSC04194

This is one of those rare small window opportunities, almost irreplaceable on such a grand scale. It’s only open until Sept 27th; if you’re in the Seattle area you need to go. Window is closing…IMG_4541 (2) unnamed DSC04247

Cartoonery; COOKIES!

Hello…I love cookies…cookies

I tried my first recipe from the Momofuku Milk Cookbook...

All hail Christina Tosi!

I attempted the Corn Cookies last night and although I was concerned that they would be uninteresting ..or too corny… or whatever silly nonsense it is that keeps us from venturing into the unknown, they are anything but lackluster. I tasted the batter, I always do, it was sweet and complex with a good amount of salty aftertaste. Like the crunchy corn bread crust that sometimes forms at the edges of the pan. You know as well as I do that is always the best part of the cornbread. I was sold. It was on. All the best idioms! I cannot recommend this recipe enough!

Get yourself a copy of that book. Seriously. Now.

I added a little bit of glaze just to add a hint of strawberry. Here’s a quick run down if  you want to try it;

Strawberry Glaze

2 tablespoons powdered strawberry *

1 cup powdered sugar

1 tablespoon strawberry jam

milk to thin to desired consistency

Whisk together all the ingredients together in a bowl until smooth. Do as you see fit… I plopped it into a small ziplock bag and snipped the corner. Zig-zag, swirl, or go all Jackson Pollock on those cookies while still warm. They will take a few hours to dry so the glaze is no longer sticky.

*Powdered strawberries? Yes. Taking a page from Tosi, I grabbed some freeze dried strawberries from my local Whole Foods and used a mortar/pestle to grind them into a powder. Took 20 seconds at most. Worth the extra effort to boost the strawberry flavor in your glaze and give you that insane shade of crazy Barbie pink.

Which recipe to try next…

September 5th, 2014. My last day!
